New Beginnings

What does God say about new beginnings

  • What does God say about new beginnings?

  • What do new beginnings look like?

  • What is God saying to His people in this new beginning?

What Biblical truths do we have about new beginnings?

Before you read this, ask the Holy Spirit to hover over you, your thoughts and your heart. May you be transformed into a new being in Christ our Savior.

Hi! I’m Kimberly, usually known as Kim. I am a normal girl who Christ found in her room and has never been the same since. Jesus is my life, sharing His gospel is my calling and this blog is the manifestation of that. I hope this blog points you to the One and Only, Jesus Christ the Son of God.

So let's be honest, the title is a little cliche I admit, but what can I say, the best way to encompass what I am trying to say is through this title.

I am not a big fan of "new beginnings", something about them feels like pressure to forget the past and suddenly be made new. I love the jokes about how every January there's an influx of gym memberships because "new year, new me". I actually did get a gym membership in January once... I lasted till February.

New beginnings have a way of doing that to us, making us overzealous, sprinting towards our resolutions, and being burnt out before the transformation process has begun. We take up workouts, cooking challenges, new year resolutions which require a rigorous amount of discipline, but I know God wishes you would take a breath.

I remember chatting with my friend and saying Christianity sometimes reminds me of diet culture (so restrictive and constantly feeling like I am holding my breathe). Counting your macros, calories and going to the gym, checking your weight and looking at every mirror to gauge if you have any changes: in Christian jargon, checking your Bible app streaks, doubling your prayer hours because you didn't pray in the morning, mindlessly reading Scripture just to say we did it or mindlessly reposting Christian content on social media which we have no intention of allowing it to transform our hearts, but we ask others to be transformed by the same message.

However, in the journey of learning who God is and what He wants with me, I realized for Him, I am the price, you are the price to God not your acts and resolutions.

Some verses that come to mind to reassure are:

Zechariah 4:10 - Do not despise small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin...

Do not despise small beginnings

Why would we despise small beginnings? For the Bible to have mentioned it, it is probably because we tend to think bigger and forget to start small, now more than ever.

I can admit I sometimes despise small beginnings because I have had many small beginnings that only ended at small beginnings. Small beginnings are more painful because they require some form of adjustment to what we are used to.

Small beginnings tend to feel like a rebirth. God wants to meet us where the small beginnings are, there we are like children in need of our father to help us navigate a new territory.

This blog is a new beginning for me which is absolutely daunting because I don't know what you guys want to hear, what should I share or how to phrase what I am sharing. However, I am with God in my new beginning, and I'll continue to be the best version of myself through His grace.

The Lord rejoices to see a work begin

What work do you think the Lord is moving you to begin?

For some the work is waking up earlier to dedicate time to the Lord, for some it is a business venture and for some it is taking care of you and your family.

Work from the Lord has no classification of importance, if God has called you to start it, it is important work.

The Lord rejoices when there are new beginnings because a new beginning means a new side of Himself He can reveal to you.

So when we have new beginnings, the first step is remember the Lord and the Angels in heaven are rejoicing, so you too must rejoice!

Practical ways to navigate new beginnings:

  • Take it in stride. God says His mercies are new every morning, and every single day as we know it starts with a morning. So every day it's as if our cells have been regenerated in the Lord.

  • Set a routine. It is not possible in our humanness to think we can desire change and suddenly begin to execute it. Good intentions do not create good habits, good actions do. After all, the word does say, faith without works is dead.

  • Ask for Help. This is an underrated way of navigating new beginnings. Ecclesiastics 1:9 “What has been will be again, what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun.”

What is God saying in this new beginning?

I believe our Heavenly Father is saying in this year, I want you. Your time, your hobbies and your affections. The devil is sprawling like a lion ready to devour anyone who is not paying attention.

Let us create habits and a lifestyle that allows the Spirit of God to find us. Intimacy is what God is desiring, as I said, for God you are the price, in turn for you God is the only price too.

So as we set resolutions, let us set resolutions that allow God to find us in anything we are doing, may He not only find us in early morning Bible studies or the before bed Bible study or on the few Sunday's we decide to show up to church. May He find us anywhere, everywhere and anytime.

My loves, January 1st is not the only new beginning God gives you. His mercies are new every morning, each step we take in a direction that pleases the Lord, that is in itself a new beginning.

So take heart, if you didn't manage to read those books you wanted to last year, eat better or take up a new hobby, anytime you have breathe in your lungs it is a new beginning for you, so ease up. I am rooting for you, and God is with you, go in courage and strength!
