Holy Spirit, please be with us. Speak to us, sit with us and please move in our hearts.
”If I had the gift of prophecy, and if I understood all of God’s secret plans and possessed all knowledge, and if I had such faith that I could move mountains, but didn’t love others, I would be nothing.”
1 Corinthians 13:2 NLT
To start off this series, we are talking about love! I absolutely love love. I would like for us to tackle this verse backwards.
I would be nothing if I didn’t love others but had faith.
So it appears that love is a big deal here. One seizes to be anything without it.
”By faith we understand that the entire universe was formed at God’s command, that what we now see did not come from anything that can be seen.“
Hebrews 11:3 NLT
So this verse shows us what faith is. It is believing that the entirety of what we see around us is a product of God’s workmanship. That belief also translates to understanding that the God of unseen beauties is the God of seen trails.
I believe the average person can muster some inkling of faith. A perfect example of this is the Pharisees and religious leaders in Jesus’ time. They had big faith. They believed in God, the All Creating God. The God of Moses, Abraham and the pillar of fire God. You know the God they had no faith in, the God who loved His people. So much so that they did not recognise that He was willing to and died for them.
You can have the gift of faith. You can believe big. You can believe that God will open up a door for you, He will provide the money you need for that investment, or that God will allow that situation to work in your favour. If you do not have love residing in you, you are just but an empty vessel.
I mean it when I say empty, a loveless person is a Godless person.
Make no mistake, God will use you. The harvest is great, but the workers are few. His Kingdom will not be deterred, but the reckoning for loveless service will come.
What is loveless service:
For starters, in this faith we share there is no room for self-preservation but only self-sacrifice. So if you are serving with your convenience in mind, that is likely loveless service.
Let me use myself as an example. I am the writer of this blog. I love doing it, serving and offering what I can. It becomes loveless when I do not take time to study, when I do not take time to listen to God or when I do not partner with the Holy Spirit. To love you guys is to make sure that what I give you is the best that I can at that moment. If this means long nights and working on myself relentlessly, that it is a burden I have to bear for the gift I have been given.
Loveless service means to operate from a place that does not think how best can I be of service to the kingdom. It thinks of how best can I look wise as I do this or how can I get more people to see me. Love the people of God enough to want to work on their heart more than their presence. If they don’t show up for you that is okay, work for their heart.
I am nothing if I do not have love but I understood all of God’s secret plans and possessed all knowledge.
Sometimes when I am really studying the Bible, I am so excited to be getting all this knowledge. I know so much, I understand so much. It is such a blessing to have all that knowledge, but knowledge means nothing if you possess no love.
There is no amount of theology, Bible verses, sermons you have watched that can cover a loveless spirit. You know why?
”Most important of all, continue to show deep love for each other, for love covers a multitude of sins.“
1 Peter 4:8 NLT
There is nothing that love cannot cover. Love covers death, look at Jesus, He showed us that. The easiest way to love someone is prayer. Pray for those who hurt you, pray for the things that hurt you and pray for those you have hurt. Prayer is the surest way to show love.
”Three things will last forever—faith, hope, and love—and the greatest of these is love.“
1 Corinthians 13:13 NLT
If you are fussing because you are not hopeful enough about the future or God’s plans for you. If you are worried you are not exercising faith in your life and are disappointing God. What God needs from you right now is love. With love, the possibilities are endless: to obey God or to work for God you need to love Him. So as I said, with love the possibilities are endless.
Thank you so much for reading! I love you all so much and thank you for your time.
